Rainy Daze with the 'Wonderment of Weir" :)

Rainy days = Lazy days.

It's very cold & overcast in LA & definitely a 'stay in bed all day and watch movies' kinda day... for sure! And lucky for me... there is a 'Be Good Johnny Weir' marathon on all day long. (Have you ever heard anything so beautiful as the words 'Be Good Johnny Weir' and 'Marathon' in the same sentence??) So Pop Star on Ice was on first and then 6 fun-filled episodes of 'Be Good Johnny Weir' rounded out the next 3 hours or so... So naturally, I watched all of it (even though I had already seen it all).. partially in an attempt to delay doing my cartoon animation homework and PRIMARILY because of the Wonderment of Weir a.k.a. 'the Johnny Goodness'...!!!!! :)

Ever since I was a teenager I've always loved watching figure skating... Oksana Baiul (sp? oops)was always my favorite skater as a child... I always looked forward to seeing her perform and throwing down her back flip move... and when she won the gold in the '84 Olympics it was SWEET!!! .... and I still remeber it like it was yesterday.

But before I saw 'Pop Star on Ice' for the first time... and started watching 'Be Good Johnny Weir'... I had NO idea what a challening life figure skaters must live. Dealing with the constant loneliness, the physical exhaustion from endless hours of practice & practically zero time for fun & relaxation, the psychological & financial drain they must endure to be able to have any small measure of success... it's just CRAZY and totally EXTREME!!! Sometimes it just looks like it could be such a bleak & miserable existence... it makes me wonder why anybody would choose or want this for themselves.

But, THANK GOD, even with all of these sacrifices and negative aspects to being a figure skater... people like Johnny Weir still make the choice and decide to dedicate their lives to the sport. And for me, getting to see some of the behind the scenes of his life and the inner workings of the world of competitive figure skating, it just makes me appreciate having a skater like Johnny Weir in the world to root for and love...10 billion times better!!!! We are all very fortunate to have him as a US figure skater... because he is... sooo talented, and captivating, and beautiful, and charismatic, fun & fabulous and 100% AMAZING!!! ... and who could forget that the things that that man can do with a pair of skates on the ice... is nothing short of PHENOMINAL!!!! But when you choose this life for yourself... I guess I would expect nothing less!

So it is safe to say that I have a new found LOVE for Johnny Weir - and a tremendous amount of respect for what he does... and what he sacrifices... and all of his hard work and dedication to be the best Johnny Weir that he can be... and he makes me proud... EVERY DAY.

I look forward to seeing what you bring to the ice next
season Johnny Weir!!!

Knowing you... it will be bigger and badder than ever!!!!

All of my Love,
Your Friend,

PS - On a totally unrelated topic, but one worth mentioning: Woke up today to the news that Corey Haim had died... very surreal... I grew up watching his films... Lost Boys was always a favorite!!! I always hoped he would straighten his life out... so sad. You will be missed!
